Karoline Pedersen

Karoline Pedersen brings international experience within the field of evolving pathogens and surveillance. After graduating with a master’s degree from Copenhagen University’s School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2017, specializing in resistant bacteria, she had an internship at Herlev Hospital – Department of Clinical Microbiology, where she did research in the duration of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium carriage. In May 2018 she accepted a position at Statens Seruminstitut in the department of Bacteria, Parasites and Fungi, Reference laboratory for Antibiotic Resistance (RAR). Here she worked as co-editor of the Danish Integrated Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring and Research Programme (DANMAP). DANMAP monitor the use of antimicrobial agents and the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria in food, food animals and humans in Denmark. By publishing the yearly findings in the annual report, DANMAP aims to strengthen antimicrobial stewardship in Denmark, by enabling fast action against emerging resistant bacteria. While at Statens Serum institut she also filled the role as the Danish antibiotic consumption data manager at the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC). She is also the co-host of “Armor on the Air”, a weekly podcast dedicated educating the public about the dangers of AMR.
